Mrs. Bergman and her husband's first early 20th century house in Balfour, ND was a railroad boxcar. They later added on. Mr. Bergman was the "druggist" in the community. Mrs. Bergman comment about the general conditions of American politics in May of 1976 was, "Ford is not good. Reagan is no good. Carter is no good. The world is going to the dogs." She then retired to watch the nightly news on her television. This photo was part of the Dakota Photo Documentary Project which was a project in 1976 to document all the main streets in North Dakota, and any claims to fame or colorful personalities found in each community.
